Round Up

First of all, many apologies for no commentary yesterday. I had to run the Speed Skydiving event sponsored by Lars & Brusgaard and I didn't have enough time to do both.

Anyway, after a slow start, we did much of the Nationals yesterday. Almost all of the Artistics was completed within a day. The only exception was a jump off for the silver in Freefly A between teams Varial and Kinetic. Both are well seasoned competitors and both ended on 51.70. A team captain's meeting was organised and both teams said they were happy not to do the jump-off and assign positions to whoever. Kate Charters, the chief judge, said no. In fact the rules give no provision for such a situation. Placements have to be decided on points in a jump-off and not arbitrarily given. So let's see who takes that bronze today!

In the lead in Freefly A was always expected to be Volare who are going to Dubai for the World Championships. They have put some new moves into their routine including a fantastic new maneuver involving the camera flyer, Dan Parker flying through the middle of a headup and headdown formation only anchored by the performers ankles.

In the 8-way Senior, it was going to be close battle between the Brit Chicks and Micro Climate. Brit Chicks have been working hard with Italian coach, Marco Arrigo and Micro Climate are very seasoned competitors with some members from the original 8-way team VNE from years back. At the moment, they have pulled ahead by some 5 points after 7 rounds. Its a big ask to pull that back, but it can be done. All it takes is for 1 dodgy round and it can all be evened up.

This year, the Brit Chicks team has a B squad, the Brit Chicks Evolution squad. They are also comprised of good players as well and are sitting just 2 points ahead of a Vision, Kaizen and SonicNutz's team called Vision of a Kizen's Nutts.

Freestyle is a bit thin on the ground this year with only 2 teams taking part in the A class. Al and Pixie from Airkix Freestyle are again on fine form and took the gold some 18.20 points ahead of Euphoria Freestyle. Euphoria Freestyle are the new kids on the block and are made up of Alex Dand and Andy Godwin. They show a lot of promise!

Lastly in the Speed Skydiving, we have 5 entrants including Noel Purcell our CCI at Hibaldstow. In the past he has done speeds well over 280mph, but he hasn't competed in 6 years. He posted 2 scores - 243 and 246mph. The winner from last year, Simon Brentford, has completed 4 rounds so far posting high scores again around the 260 mark, but unusually, there are 2 Out of Bounds scores. This happens when the 2 measuring devices record speeds more than 30 Km/hr difference. Unless he puts a 3rd score in, he will finish down in the tables. We have 3 new competitors this year - Ben Canon (appropriate name!), Stephen Steward and Brian Cumming. They have all put very respectable times in. Ben finished all his jumps yesterday with an average of 233mph!
