When I awoke this morning, I was expecting grey overcast clouds and the prospect of a roll-over for Rookie and AAA class. I could not have been more wrong, in fact it has been beautiful weather today and the competition was complete in 1.5 hours. I can't remember a more exciting nationals for many years across so many categories. So summing up the Rookie & AAA:
Well done to team Blue Steel who were coached this year by Milko (Satori XL and Kate from 4Mula). They won with a fantastic 108 points. Speaking to Josh on their team they were not aiming for a medal position, they just wanted to do their best on each round and be consistent - well they certainly proved that. Also congratulations to silver medalists AAC Blue Eagles who scored 82 today and in bronze, Fantastic4 scoring 77.
In the AAA class, it was always known that Satori XL would win the gold again and it was great to see Pete Allum rejoin them this year after many competing with the Italians (Sinapsi). This is in fact Pete's 30th anniversary of winning his first Nationals! They took gold with a total of 207 and kept their 20+ average intact from last year.
Silver medalists were 4Mula who took the same position last year, but this moved from a 16 to an 18.3 average on a slow draw. Their coach Joey Jones said they did very well considering he had been busting their balls for the last 2 years! And lastly in the bronze medal position with Dunkerswell local team Vision 99. They trained hard and scored a very credible 177 today. Special note must go to team Eclipse who with only 28 training jumps took 5th place not far off the NFTO girls with a total of 161. This is their 6th season together and that makes a huge difference in know how each other think, move and fly.
