No World Championships goes to completiton without some protestest or complaint being lodged and this one is no exception. In the Artistics Freefly event, the British team Volare have put in a requst asking for the exit height to be raised from 13,000ft to 13,500ft as their fall rate is slightly higher and therefore they are opening lower.
On first glance, the grounds of safety would be logical and the decision was made to raise it to 15,000ft in fact. A meeting was held in fact where all the teams agreed that it was a good idea. However since, then some teams have complained saying that it gives an unfair advantage to our team. The argument is that they have all learned to fly slower whilst executing their moves at reduced speed, and therefore, so should the Brits.
The rules were therefore reversed again as it was a 'change of the rules'. Opening at 2000ft over the water is not ideal.
To end this post, how about some photos of the opening ceremony and some other shots gathered recently.
