As many of you know, there was a lot of bad weather at Hibaldstow over the 2nd weekend of competitions. Despite this, a late break in the weather allowed the competition to complete today amazingly. As already said, only the 8way were unable to finish all the rounds. It was decided at a team captains meeting to call the event early and not make the teams return to the dropzone to finish off next weekend.
So in the 8way well done to MicroClim8te who once again win the gold medal. It is worth noting that it is not often we see a competitor take the Gold in 4way and 8way, so congratulations to Liz Matthews. He husband Stumpy did the same feat back in 2006 (I think). Silver goes to Thunderbirds with a total of 77 points and Bronze to The Awkward Turtles.
In the Speed Skydiving event, well done to our new national champion Jason Bird, Michael Lovemore in silver and Mike Longford in bronze. In the Open Competition, visiting Swedes Daniel Hagström and Henrik Raimer took silver and 4th place respectively. Some impressive scores and one of the best competitions I have witnessed in a long time.
Freestyle A went to Alex and Andy from Freefly Euphoria who have trained so hard this year. Today also marks Alex's last day in the Army as well. Revolution Freestyle who you may remember had to change their cameraman after a horrible accident earlier in the season took the silver with fantastic moves and the bronze goes to Last Minute who I suspect (but cannot confirm) are a scratch team.
In the Freefly A, there was a significant switch betwen the gold and silver medal positions seen since round 2. It all came down to round 5 where team Varial lost vital points to Freefly Euphoria. Sky Candy came 3rd but sadly could not attend to complete all their jumps today.
Overall it has been an eventful competition with some of the most difficult weather I have ever seen for a Nationals. That being said, the dropzone still by the skin of their teeth managed to complete the competition.
